How to get to Granada?
Granada is located just at the point where the Sierra Nevada mountains meet the fertile plain of the vega. Behind it are steep mountains and in front there is flat agricultural land. I suppose it was first inhabited and grew because it was easy to defend from behind and although it is dry in the summer there is always a supply of water coming from the mountain fueled by melting snow, the rich soil in the Vega provided an ample food source. The altitude is 630 metres. By plane Granada doesn't have an international airport so if you want to fly to Granada you will have to first fly to Madrid (45 minutes) or Barcelona (1 hour). If you take this option you should get your travel agent to book the connecting flight. There are not many flights to Granada, so depending on when you arrive it may be advisable to get a bus or train rather than waiting in Madrid. The nearest international airport is Malaga (see below) the best way to get from Malaga to Granada is by bus. For more information please click here.
